Mijn Stadskerk, community platform for De Stadskerk
One central place for members, communities, pastoral care, giving and communication
The challenge
De Stadskerk in Groningen wanted to leave behind a fragmented administrative landscape in which member management, planning, communication, pastoral care and giving each lived in different corners. They needed one digital home for the community, where members and guests can log in, find their community and teams, where life events are handled neatly, donations run via direct debit, and the existing Stadskerk app keeps working seamlessly with the same login. Not as separate modules, but as one coherent platform that grows with the community.
Our solution
We built "Mijn Stadskerk": a comprehensive intranet platform on top of the existing WordPress environment. Logged-in users get their own portal with custom navigation and only see what is relevant for them. Behind the scenes runs a modular system with dozens of separate components, each focused on a specific aspect of community life. That keeps it overview-friendly, and new functionality can be added without endangering the rest.
Communities, teams and ministries
The heart of the platform is formed by communities (organized geographically, including postcode areas), teams (functional) and ministries. Each group has its own environment with member list, practical info, leadership messages, attendance tracking and its own agenda. Messages can be sent simultaneously to multiple teams or communities, and specific roles such as shepherds, community leadership and team support each have their own additional capabilities.
Pastoral care and life events
Mijn Stadskerk supports pastoral care with care files, sick reports, shepherd overviews and a "looking out for each other" overview with birthdays. Life events are processed automatically: a birth report, for example, immediately prepares a user account for the newborn, links it to the family and queues a corresponding newsletter. Marriages, divorces, anniversaries, deaths and dedications all have their own automated flow as well.
Giving, newsletters and room reservations
For donations, automatic direct debit is set up, including the processing of debit batches and a payment history for both direct debit and iDeal. Newsletters are sent from the system in line with current deliverability guidelines, with separate unsubscribe options per newsletter and a global unsubscribe link. There is also a rentals and hall agenda module for booking rooms, with separate screens for the hall and the coffee kitchen.
The impact
De Stadskerk now has one central digital home for the community. Members and guests log in with their existing credentials, find their teams and communities, manage their giving, stay informed via targeted newsletters, and receive pastoral attention through a system that supports the work of shepherds and care teams. Since 2022, the platform has been continuously developed further, with new modules and improvements rolling out regularly.
